NewsNigeriaPoliticsThe military lacks motivation to fight terrorists – Senator Ndume

The Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, Mohammed Ali Ndume has said that the Nigerian military is not well-equipped to win the years-long war against terrorism in the country.

He told the press on Monday that the meagre salaries and other allowances the military are paid were not motivating enough, and asked President Bola Tinubu to supply more funds.

“What they are getting is too small to even take care of their daily needs in the field while fighting,” the Senator lamented.

Ndume believes that when the “right things”, referring to raising security agents’ emoluments, are done, the country will see “a different outcome in the ongoing insurgency war in various parts of the country.”

“President Tinubu has made it clear that he won’t accept excuses from heads of security agencies. And I agree with him,” the Senator said.

“We need to win this war. But we need to do more. Those soldiers and other members of the Armed Forces fighting to protect the country are not properly motivated.”
