NewsNigeriaPoliticsFirst Lady seeks prayers for Nigeria to overcome security challenges

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu has charged Nigerians to pray and keep on praying until the growing security crisis in the country comes to an end.

Nigeria is plagued by insurgencies, banditry, and communal conflicts that pose significant threats to the nation.

Confronting insecurity ranging from mass abductions of schoolchildren to kidnappings by gangs to banditry as well as violence from Islamic extremist groups remain a paramount challenge for President Bola Tinubu who took office in May 2023.

Mrs Tinubu thinks the challenges would be overcome by prayers.

“Let us intensify our prayers as it is prayers that would bring us out of this conundrum we find ourselves as a nation,” her Monday post on X reads.

The First Lady’s post was in reaction to the return of the five children of the Al-Kadriyar family after their abduction by unknown gunmen on 2 January.

One of the six sisters had earlier been killed when the demanded ransom was yet unpaid.

According to the First Lady, the surviving five siblings were saved by the prayers of Nigerians and the efforts of security officers.

“Prayer works and I want to thank all Nigerians, especially mothers for praying for the safe return of the Al-Kadriyar sisters,” she stated.

However, the Al-Kadriyar sisters were reportedly set free on Saturday night after the family paid the kidnappers the demanded sum of ₦100 million.
