The Anambra State House of Assembly has passed into law a bill against trafficking in persons. The bill which was introduced to the House in 2023 entitled “A Bill for a Law for Trafficking in Persons Prohibition, Enforcement and Administrative Law 2023,” was at committee stage at the end of the 2023 legislative year.

During plenary on Tuesday, the Chairman of the Committee on Judiciary, Hon. Pat Okafor and member representing Onitsha North constituency II, presented an expanded committee report on the bill, which the Assembly debated and discussed. In the end, the bill was read for the third and final time and passed into law.

A motion calling on the governor to direct the commissioner for transport to fully utilise the Ogbaru ultra-modern terminal point for its specified purposes, was moved by Hon. Noble Igwe, member of the House representing Ogbaru I constituency. This motion was seconded by Hon. Golden Ilo, representing Ihiala II constituency. Hon. Chidi Ibeneme, House member representing Njikoka I, Hon.Ejike Okechukwu, representing Anaocha II, Hon. Jude Akpua representing Njikoka II, Hon. Tony Muobuike, and Hon. Kingsley Azubike of Idemili North constituency, all supported the motion arguing that the bus terminal should be put into full use by the government in utmost public interest. The motion was thereupon passed.

The House then adjourned till Wednesday, January 31st, 2024.
