Nigeria’s first lady, Oluremi Tinubu is deeply saddened by the spate of kidnappings in the country that she has called for the death of any apprehended bandit.
A wave of kidnapping swept through Nigeria last week with the abduction of more than 270 school children by Fulani radical Islamic terrorists in Kuriga village, Chikun LGA of Kaduna State on Thursday, 7 March.
The next day, Mrs Tinubu, during a meeting with the national women leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, at the State House, called for the execution of the terrorists, describing them as “cowards”.
“Right now, I think enough is enough. As a former lawmaker, I believe that any one of them captured deserves capital punishment,” said the First Lady.
“They are cowards. Our hearts bleed. I call on the state governments that once we take hold of them, they deserve capital punishment. Why can’t they take men of their size? Why are they touching women and children?” she added.
Hours after Mrs Tinubu’s call, the jihadists struck in Gidan Bakuso village in Gada LGA of Sokoto State, abducting at least 15 school children.
The village was attacked at 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, but authorities have yet to give exact figures of kidnapped victims as they said they were still working out how many children had been abducted.
President Bola Tinubu has not responded to the First Lady’s demand, but only said he is “confident that the victims will be rescued.”
“Nothing else is acceptable to me and the waiting family members of these abducted citizens. Justice will be decisively administered,” the President, in a statement issued on Friday by his spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, added.
