A prominent Islamic scholar in Nigeria, Sheik Ahmad Abubakar Gumi has advised the Nigerian government to hold talks with the terror groups holding communities in the country siege.
Terror attacks swept through Kaduna, Borno and Sokoto States in the past week.
No group claimed responsibility for any of the recent attacks and abductions, and the security agencies have made no statements.
Government at the federal and state levels are overwhelmed by the attacks.
As the confusion lingers, Gumi has come to the rescue
“The government’s stand of no negotiation with the bandits is an unfortunate position. My advice is that the government should dialogue with the bandits not only for these Kuriga school children abduction but all the cases,” he said.
The Sheik, acting as a self-appointed middleman between terrorists and the government or families of abducted victims, has gone on several so-called peace missions to groups of outlaws. But his efforts go unrecognised by the authorities.
Gumi said he is ready to lead a “holistic dialogue” between the government and bandits. According to him, “It is a religious duty for me to do so for peace.”
“I hope the present government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will listen by dialoguing with the bandits because the past administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari refused to do so,” he added.
