…Promises Support For Foreign Innovations

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has said that his administration will continue to support foreign innovations, which will bring about development and growth of Nigeria.

The Governor disclosed this while speaking with journalists after a closed-door meeting with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who paid him a courtesy call at the Lagos House, Marina, on Sunday.

Sanwo-Olu lauded Prince Harry for using the Invictus Games to help serving members of the Military, as well as veterans in overcoming their physical or mental health illness or injury, which eventually helps them develop a sense of belonging and increased self-esteem.

Invictus Games is an initiative founded by Prince Harry to support the rehabilitation of wounded and sick service members and veterans, including Nigerian soldiers and their fight against terrorism.

He assured the Duke and Duchess of Sussex of Lagos government’s support anytime the Invictus Games is brought to Nigeria.

The governor, who said the Prince and his wife had been to Kano and Abuja, urged them to explore the many historical sites in Nigeria to be abreast of the rich cultural heritage of the country.

The Duke and Duchess Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were accompanied by the Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, and his wife, Lilian and received by members of Lagos State Executives.

He said that the royals arrived in Nigeria on May 10 to promote the Invictus Games.

“This visit, which is mainly to promote the Invictus Games, founded in 2014 by Prince Harry, is aimed at helping currently serving members of the Military, as well as veterans, in overcoming their physical or mental health illness or injury, which eventually helps them develop a sense of belonging and increased self-esteem,” he stated.

Sanwo-Olu added: “We’re indeed happy for what they’re doing especially for our military men, on conversation around mental health and how they can manage people that require support both in military and private.

“They are on a private visit to our country and Lagos is one of their stop overs. So we welcome them at the State House here in Marina, we’re excited about all the ideas.

“These are the things they are planning to do with the team of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Musa and his lovely wife. We just want to assure you gentlemen of the press that for Prince Harry, this has been a very informative trip to the country,” Sanwo-Olu said.
