To ensure a healthy environment, Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has signed an executive order banning open grazing, open defecation, urination, loitering, and driving against the normal flow of traffic.

The executive order underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order, with measures in place to enforce regulations and promote public safety throughout Benue State.

Others affected by the law are abandonment or parking of vehicles on traffic lanes or driveways, overspeeding and overloading of vehicles, and othersother offenses in the state.

The executive order which takes effect on 28, 2024, also restricts late-night gatherings without prior authorization, mandates the closure of businesses by midnight, and prohibits minors from engaging in errands or street vending during school hours or beyond 6:00 PM.

The order also targets behaviors that contravene public morality and decency, including strip clubs, prostitution, indecent dressing, and disrespect for authority.

Governor Alia has instituted a task force, tribunals, and committees, with jurisdiction granted to magistrates, area court judges, and public order tribunals to ensure total compliance.

According to the order, there are penalties for offenders, including fines ranging from N20,000.00 to N500,000.00, confiscation of property, and custodial sentences.

It further said advisory committees at the state and local government levels will guide policies and programs related to public order.
