The Senate has recalled Abdul Ahmed Ningi, suspended on March 12, 2024, over allegations of N3.7 trillion padding of the 2024 budget.
Senator Ningi, the then Chairman of the NSF and a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District, made the allegations on the BBC Hausa Service, accusing the National Assembly of budget padding and misinformation related to the 2024 budget.
In a resolute response to the claims made by the Senator regarding alleged wrongdoing in the 2024 budget, the Northern Senators Forum (NSF) unequivocally distanced itself from the assertions, describing them as uninformed and grossly unparliamentary.
Senator Ningi was then suspended for three months after a long, stormy session in the red chamber under the leadership of Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
The Deputy Minority Leader Sen. Abba Moro, who moved a motion for the recall expressed regret on behalf of the suspended senator.
Sen. Moro acknowledged the gravity of the suspension.
The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, stressed the senator’s resourcefulness and described him as a valued member of the Senate, adding that the decision to recall him transcends religious and ethnic divides.
The senator’s conduct during the period of suspension has been a matter of scrutiny and debate within the legislative body.
