The Nigerian Air Force, NAF, successfully neutralised 30 terrorists in coordinated airstrikes conducted on 27th May in Borno and Katsina states. This comes as a significant blow to terror groups operating in the regions.
According to Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, the air component of Operation Hadarin Daji targeted terrorist hideouts in Kankara Local Government Area, Katsina. The operation aimed to dismantle the network of a notorious terrorist kingpin known as Babura.
“Credible intelligence reports,” Gabkwet said, “indicate that approximately 30 terrorists were neutralised during the strike. While Babura himself narrowly escaped, most of his foot soldiers were not so fortunate.”
In a separate mission, the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai conducted airstrikes near Lake Chad in Borno State. The targeted location, Tumbun Fulani, was a previously abandoned terrorist hideout that had shown signs of renewed activity.
“This location was previously struck by NAF aircraft on 26 and 28 September 2023 with several terrorists eliminated and their logistics and mobilities destroyed” Gabkwet explained. The recent airstrike served as a pre-emptive measure to prevent the terrorists from re-establishing their presence.
“That these remnant of terrorists have returned to their once-destroyed enclave, is indicative of the successes being recorded by both air and ground troops in flushing them out of their various hideouts,” Gwabkwet added.
