The governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has been honoured as the Most Performing Governor in Nigeria at the 2024 Africa Illustrious Award held at the Lagos Oriental Hotel over the weekend. This recognition is on the strength of Sanwo-Olu’s disruptive and innovative developmental strides since on the saddle as the governor of Lagos State. Similarly, the governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, was decorated with an award of excellence. During the event, Sanwo-Olu was represented by Adesegun Ogundeji, the Lagos State Director of Public Affairs, while Governor Sani of Kaduna State was equally represented by the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, James Kanyip.
Other recipients of the revered Africa Illustrious Award are Sir. Kissington Adebutu, a successful Nigerian businessman and investor of international repute, was honoured with a distinguished philanthropist award. Similarly, Sir Paul Chukwuma, the former National Auditor of the ruling APC and pro-chancellor of Olivia University as well as a prominent national political figure was honoured with an award of excellence in administration and philanthropy. Dr. Ruben Abati, former presidential media aide, ace journalist, and TV host was recognized as the Media Icon of the Year. Dele Momodu, a prominent Nigerian media star was also honoured. Tomas Fernandez Garcia, Economic and Commercial Consular at the Embassy of Spain, was given special recognition for promoting closer economic and commercial ties between Nigeria and Spain.
The Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Ben Okolo, was also honoured with an excellent service award. The Commissioner of Police of Lagos State, CP Adegoke Fayoade was equally conferred with an excellent service award. The Deputy Speaker of Anambra State, Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Okoye received an outstanding performance award as a State lawmaker in the Southeast. Hon. Kingsley Ogbonna, a member of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly was honoured. The Executive Secretary of Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, reputed as one of the best government health insurance providers, Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi, was honoured as an excellent health administrator. Special Adviser to Governor Soludo, Dr. Nelson Omenugha, was given an outstanding youth leadership award. Dr. Kenneth Okonkwo was given an award of recognition.
Ex-Super Eagles international, Mutiu Adepoju, Mr. Albert Nwonah, the assistant controller of Customs, Mrs. Bolnale Austine-Peters, owner of Terra Culture were all recognized.
The well-attended award and celebration of African excellence resonates with the commitment of the Africa Illustrious Award’s focus and deliberate efforts towards projecting the bright side of Africa. In a statement released by the Africa Illustrious Award shortly after the event, the group noted that the award is part of the journey to “make Africa the centre of human impeccable excellence and ingenuity.”
The event was anchored by Segun Arinze, a popular Nollywood actor, and assisted by Victory Wilson, a radio personality.
He is a Technical Assistant to Governor Willie Obiano’s Special Adviser on Legislative Matters, whoonce was a Special Adviser to a former Deputy Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly. Ebuka is a second class upper division graduate of Political Science from University of Calabar, Calabar Nigeria and holds a Masters Degree in Political Science with specialization in Government and Development Studies, from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka Nigeria
