The Indonesian Embassy in Nigeria says trade and export of goods from Nigeria to Indonesia have increased annually by 51.8%, rising from $148 million in 2017 to $1.19 billion in 2022 over the past five years.
The Indonesian Embassy in Nigeria in a statement attributed the success to diplomatic policies and programmes of the outgoing Indonesian Ambassador to Nigeria, Usra Hendra Harahap.
According to the statement, during the tenure of Ambassador Harahap, the envoy has fostered economic cooperation, trade, investment, and cultural understanding between Nigeria as well as Indonesia
The statement added that Nigeria exported significant quantities of crude petroleum products valued at over $3.8 billion, cocoa beans at $104 million, and nitrogenous fertilizers at $35.5 million during the tenure of the Ambassador.
Dr. Usra’s success was attributed to his continuous promotion of relations between Nigeria and Indonesia, creating favorable working conditions for Nigerian staff at the Embassy, and enhancing Nigeria’s image in Indonesia and other countries.
“His kindness was evident through initiatives such as building and renovating schools, constructing a mosque, and conducting Ramadan charity work. His generosity extended to domestic staff, providing them with land and assisting them in building homes, which improved their living conditions and fostered a sense of belonging.
“Ambassador Usra effectively communicated Indonesian policies, interests, and values to Nigeria, representing Indonesia with dignity, integrity, and professionalism. He remained well-informed on political, economic, and social developments.
“He supported and protected Indonesian interests while respecting Nigerian sovereignty, demonstrating his skills as a diplomat, strategist, and representative dedicated to strengthening bilateral relations, the statement added.
The statement further said the outgoing envoy also collaborated with other diplomats, international organizations, and stakeholders to address global challenges, earning him recognition as a distinguished figure in Indonesian diplomacy and a true friend of Nigeria.
“Ambassador Usra actively supported Quranic education and charity, attending graduations and visiting schools to encourage students in their spiritual journeys. His recent visit to a Quranic school’s graduation ceremony in Kurudu, Yanyan, near Abuja, reflects his dedication to the community.
Additionally, during Ramadan and Eid, he provided food, cows, and rams to impoverished families, ensuring they could celebrate these significant occasions with dignity,” the statement said.
