NewsNigeriaPolitics#EndBadGovernance: Accede To Demands Of Protesters, PDP Tells Tinubu

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has told President Bola Tinubu to listen to the people who are peacefully protesting, and accede to their demands

The party also condemned the alleged treasonable offence in Kano State where some persons hijacked the protest, holding the Russian flags, chanting anti-government songs.

According to the party, those who have committed treasonable offences in the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protest should face justice as the law demands.

The party however noted that it shouldn’t stop the government from doing the needful.

Speaking on Tuesday on Arise TV, the National Publicity of the party, Debo Ologunagba stated that the PDP condemns any form of subversive activities during the protest but quickly reminded the government that hunger had driven the people to the streets and the government has a constitutional responsibility to meet the welfare of the citizens.

He said, “Whoever that is engaged in subversive activities should face the law, as a party, we always advocate for peace. That was why in 2015, the PDP government of President Jonathan allowed for what is called peaceful transfer of power.

“The PDP doesn’t support any means that are violent and for those who are raising the flag of another country, it’s condemnable. We’re against that, it’s irresponsible, it’s treasonous and I think that the government and the security agencies should do what is appropriate.

“However this shouldn’t distract from the ability of the government to listen to people who are peacefully protesting. We want to appeal to the government that in doing this, the first thing is to understand that certain decisions were taken, one of such is in policy decisions. The essence of governance is to listen to the people. If you have a policy that was well intended but implementation is a challenge, then you must review.

“What the government should do right now is to review that policy that has brought about this excruciating pain to Nigerians and the government can do that today.

While calling on Tinubu to make another nationwide broadcast, Ologunagba said, “That Sunday speech was an opportunity for the president to do that which would have immediately cool down the tension so that people who are disgruntled and the criminals won’t take advantage of the situation.

“I call on the president today that he may need to talk to Nigerians again as quickly as possible, and take immediate actions to solve the issue of inflation and food shortage,” he added.
