NewsNigeriaPoliticsUK Protests: FG Issues Travel Alert, Urge Citizens in UK to be Cautious

The Nigerian government has issued a warning to citizens planning a trip to the United Kingdom, urging them to exercise extreme caution amidst the ongoing civil unrest in the country.

The advisory comes in the wake of protests, looting, and clashes between demonstrators and law enforcement in major UK cities, including London following the stabbing deaths of three young girls in Stockport, northwest England, on 29th July.

The Ministry warned Nigerians planning to visit the UK that “demonstrations by far-right and other extra-parliamentary groups in parts of the UK in recent weeks have been large and in some instances unruly” and that “there is an increased risk of violence and disorder.”

The alert advises Nigerian citizens to be “extra vigilant” and “self-aware at all times”, and to avoid crowded areas, political gatherings, and protests.

Citizens were urged to register with the Nigerian High Commission in the UK for consular assistance if needed. The embassy’s contact information was also included in the statement.

In a press statement, the Nigerian High Commission in London assured Nigerians of its commitment to their safety and well-being.

The High Commission said it will continue to monitor the situation closely to keep the Nigerian community in the UK informed of any developments.

The travel warning will remain in effect until further notice, as the situation in the UK continues to unfold.
