Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission, ANSIEC, has announced that local government elections in the state will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024.
This announcement was made by the Commission’s Chairman, Magistrate Genevieve Osakwe, during a press conference.
Magistrate Osakwe disclosed that the upcoming elections are seen as a critical step in strengthening grassroots democracy in Anambra State, where local government elections have not been held for several years.
Magistrate Osakwe, stated that they would provide an opportunity for the people of Anambra to elect their representatives at the local level.
She highlighted that ANSIEC is fully prepared to conduct a free, fair, and transparent election process and has been working tirelessly to ensure that all necessary arrangements, including the distribution of election materials and the training of ad-hoc staff, are in place ahead of the scheduled date.
The ANSIEC Chairman also called on political parties and candidates to conduct their campaigns peacefully and urged the electorate to participate actively in the electoral process.
According to her, the success of the local government elections depends on the collective efforts of all stakeholders, including the voters, security agencies, and the media.
