The West African Examinations Council, WAEC, announced on Monday the release of results for 1,685,889 candidates who sat for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE.

The results were made available to students on Monday, according to a post on WAEC’s social media page.

“The West African Examinations Council is pleased to inform candidates who sat WASSCE for school candidates, 2024 that the result has officially been released today, Monday,” the post on X read.

WAEC Head of Nigeria Operations, Amos Dangut, stated that despite security challenges in some regions affecting the exam’s administration, the overall conduct was successful.

A total of 1,805,216 students registered for the exam which started on 30 April and ended on 24 June 2024.

Dangut said that the results of 1,301,949 candidates included credits in both Mathematics and English Language, a crucial benchmark for university admissions.

“WAEC is releasing its results today as out of 1,805,216 that entered for the exam, 1,332,089 candidates have credits in five subjects including any subjects with either Mathematics or English language and 1,301,949 candidates got credits in five subjects including Mathematics and English language accounting for 72.9 per cent of total candidates,” he said.

“This is a 7.6 per cent decrease in examination performance compared to the 2023 WASSCE. Also, 215,267 results were withheld due to examination malpractice by the candidates. This accounts for 11.92 per cent of the total number of candidates who wrote the examination.”
