The Federal Government of Nigeria has flagged off an economic empowerment program for one thousand petty traders at the Michael Okpara square in Enugu State; the flag-off took place simultaneously in all the thirty-six states of the federation including FCT.
Representing the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the wife of the Enugu state Governor, Mrs. Nkechiyere Mbah, in her address said the program aims at economic growth towards a better life for families.


“Due to the economic challenges faced by small and medium enterprises business especially the petty traders, the Renewed Hope economic empowerment program provides one thousand selected petty traders with fifty thousand naira each to recapitalize their business.”
“A total of one billion, eight hundred and fifty million naira will be disbursed to 37 thousand women petty traders across the Nation.”
“Economic empowerment is a core objective of the renewed hope initiative planned to assist women in overcoming some of their challenges, expanding their business, creating more jobs, and contributing more to the economy.”
Commending the Renewed Hope initiative, the Enugu state first lady Mrs. Nkechiyere Mbah said the fund is not just a financial support but a symbol of hope designed to uplift those who are often overlooked to ensure that no one is left behind.
Fifty thousand naira cheques were presented to the beneficiaries by the first lady of the state; the one thousand participants were selected across the 17 local government areas in the state.
Meanwhile, not less than 50,000 exercise books were distributed to students from various secondary schools in the state as part of the Renewed Hope Initiative.
Speaking to students, Mrs. Mbah described hard work and dedication as the bedrock of academic excellence, advising them to take their studies seriously as it equips them for leadership as well as contributes to nation-building.
