In view of impending discharge of water from Dadin-kowa Dam, Hadeja-Jama’are River, River Kamodugu, and Lagdo Dam in Cameroon Republic, the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency Agency, (SEMA), has issued an early warning flood alert to 11 local governments.
The Agency listed the local government areas likely to be affected by the flood to include Nguru, Bade, Karasuwa, Jakusko, Yusufari and Geidam, Tarmuwa, Machina, Bursari Gujba and Fune.
According to SEMA, the advisory was to ensure that residents remained alert to minimize the risk of loss of lives and property.
SEMA advised residents to take precautionary measures by adhering to all safety rules and relocate to safer areas.
The statement said: “Yobe SEMA advises all residents to take immediate precautions and safety measures as follow:
“Preparation for Relocation to higher ground if you live in a flood-prone area or near any rivers at risk of overflowing.
“Secure important documents and valuables by moving them to safe locations.
“Stay informed by regularly listening to updates from traditional leaders, local government authorities and the state emergency management agency.
“Keep emergency contact details handy for quick access to response services”.
