Anambra state government has paraded sixteen illegal revenue collectors and sand miners extorting and intimidating residents and motorists in Ogbaru Local Government Area.
Five of the suspects were arrested while masquerading themselves as government IGR collectors while another 11 were arrested while dredging sand from unapproved areas which were sealed off by the state government at Second Niger Bridge.
Parading the suspects in Awka, the Managing Director, Operation Clean And Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade, Comrade Celestine Anere said that the suspects who are unknown to the state government intimidate and extort unsuspecting members of public of their hard earned money while dispossessing others of their property.
On sand mining activities across the state, the OCHA brigade boss called on the concerned to adhere strictly to government directives by obtaining necessary permits from authorized state agencies and ministries and warned that the state will continue to deal decisively to anyone or group found wanting. .
The leader of the suspected illegal revenue collectors who were were arrested and paraded, Mr Obiorah Arinze from Ogbaru said that he was contracted by Nwa Chike-Aba Nigeria Limited and was told that they had obtained all necessary government permits to work with all required signatures and stamps.
