Water scarcity has hit Kanye Village, in Kabo Local Government Area, Kano State resulting into cholera outbreak that has claimed seven lives and left many others hospitalized.
The outbreak is said to be associated with consuming contaminated water from an open well by the residents.
Following this development, members of the Kano State House of Assembly has called on the state government to take decisive action to address the water scarcity in the area.
Ayuba Labaran, the assembly member representing Kabo, during plenary session, presented a motion of urgent public importance, stressed the need for government to provide the affected community with access to safe drinking water.
He urged the “State government should immediately repair the Gude Water Works, which supplies water to several communities, including Gari, Balam, Godiya, Kanye, as well as parts of Kano and Rimin Gado local government areas.
“Similarly, the government should deploy a team of medical experts to investigate the root cause of the cholera outbreak,” Labaran said.
The member, in an interview with reporters, pledged to construct two boreholes in Kanye village to help alleviate the community’s water shortage and prevent further health crises.
