Urges Government to Declare State of Emergency on Hunger, Malnutrition
The Deputy Minority Whip and Member representing Anaocha Constituency One, Honourable Nkechi Ogbuefi, has called on governments at all levels to declare a state of emergency on hunger, malnutrition, and food wastage to address the growing hunger crisis in society.
Honourable Ogbuefi made the call while empowering over 50 Okada riders in Anaocha Constituency One with ten-kilogram bags of rice each, through her food intervention initiative, Nkechi Ogbuefi Charity Empowerment Initiative.
The event, held at Agulu Town Hall, also commemorated World Food Day, while indigenes and non indigenes from the constituency, comprising of Agulu, Adazi Ani, Adazi Nnukwu, and Adazi Enu were part of the beneficiaries.
Honourable Ogbuefi noted that she had made a covenant with God to consistently engage in life-saving interventions for humanity, adding that her initiative would not only focus on Okada riders but also extend to other vulnerable groups.
“I have made a covenant with God to always engage in life-saving interventions for humanity. Hunger is a threat to our society, and it is imperative that every well-meaning individual, not just the government, rises to this challenge,” she stated.
The lawmaker also urged philanthropists and well-off individuals to support their neighbors in reducing hunger in the society. “When we help one another, we fight hunger and restore hope to the hopeless. Let us be our brothers’ keepers in reducing hunger and suffering in our communities,” she added.
In their remarks, the Chairman of Okada Riders in Anaocha Council Area, Mr. Jude Obianisi, and Chairman of Okada Riders in Agulu, Mr. Okwy Odu, expressed their gratitude, noting that such an intervention had never been witnessed in the area.
“This is a rare and significant intervention. We have never seen anything like this in our area, and we sincerely appreciate Honourable Ogbuefi for remembering us in such a tangible way,.
Some beneficiaries, including Evangelist Elias Ogbuefi, Mr. Chike Anyaoke, and Mr. Cyprian Okafor, also expressed their appreciation for Honourable Ogbuefi’s generosity and philanthropic efforts.
“Her kindness has brought relief to our families. It’s not just the food, but the hope she has restored in us with her gesture.
