Gombe State Commissioner for Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Cooperation, Dr Barnabas Malle has called on the Small-Scale Women Farmers Organization in Nigeria SWOFON in the state to prioritize national interest and agriculture value chains to strengthen food security and economic development of the state.
Malle made the call in his keynote address at a world food day organized by the Small-Scale Women Farmers Organization in Nigeria, Gombe state chapter in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture.
Represented by Mr. John Bulus, SWOFON should take advantage of the Ministry of Agriculture extension services program in all the eleven local government areas of the state in providing training on back garden farming, flour making, and value addition among others.
He assured the Government’s readiness to provide all the necessary support to women farmers in the State, stressing that the Gombe State Government, through programs like NG-Cares has reached women through the issuance of Sewing machines, Grinding Machines, Water Pumps, and Cash transfers.
Also Speaking, the wife of Gombe State Governor, Hajiya Asma’u Inuwa Yahaya represented by the Director of Admin and Finance, Ministry of Women Affairs, Hajiya Fatima Umar, Commended Women farmers in Gombe State to boost food security in the state and urged them to embrace modern Farming techniques to improve their farming activities.
In her remarks, the chairperson of SWOFON, Mrs. Airydia Mamman commended Governor Inuwa Yahaya for providing a budget line for Small Scale Women Farmers in the state.
