No fewer than 403 candidates from the Northwest zone have so far been screened for both masters and PhD candidates by the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) for its In-Country Scholarship Scheme.
The screening is being conducted at the College of Petroleum Studies in Kaduna.
The programme aims to develop local capacity in the oil and gas industry by providing scholarships in fields like Engineering, Computing, Geo Sciences, Environmental Studies and Management.
Saratu Abdullahi Idris, Team Lead for the Northwest Zone, emphasized the transparency of the process, noting that the PTDF’s new scholarship management portal has automated the application process since 2019.
She assured that the selection is based on merit, with requirements including a minimum of five ‘O’ level credits and a second-class lower degree.
Dr. Lucky Imagbe, a panelist from the University of Jos, praised the candidates’ performance, while Samson Bidemi, a hopeful for the MSc category, expressed satisfaction with the fairness of the process.
