The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, has assured that the ongoing fuel scarcity across the country will soon end.
The association’s publicity secretary, Ukadike Chinedu, disclosed to journalists that disruptions in the supply chain were responsible for the shortage, but he assured that fuel would become available in the coming weeks.
“The supply chain is dependent on the importation of petroleum products, but now the federal government has decided that they will not import but patronise Dangote and advised marketers to buy from him,” Chinedu said.
He further explained that logistics and documentation issues had contributed to the scarcity, but Dangote’s refinery was already supplying products.
“Dangote is reliably supplying the products and other products of crude oil,” he stated, adding that 300 trucks of fuel had already been delivered to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL.
He added that IPMAN was finalising discussions with Dangote to ensure direct purchases by marketers, which would eliminate middlemen and ease distribution.
Chinedu also disclosed that the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA, had pledged to pay marketers ₦10 billion in outstanding claims through the Petroleum Equalisation Fund.
“We have confidence in NMDPRA’s authority and have agreed on a bulk purchase arrangement with Dangote,” he said.
He assured that fuel would be available nationwide once all discussions were concluded.
