President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has charged leaders and other stakeholders in the Oyo state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to unite with a view to reclaim power in 2027.

Tinubu spoke through the Minister of Power,  Chief Adebayo Adelabu at the maiden edition of the Lam Adesina Annual Lecture Series held in Ibadan on Monday recalled that the late former governor of Oyo state, Alh. Lamidi Onaolapo Adesina was a champion of democracy.

He said that earned him a place of pride in the nation’s history as a result of his exceptional bravery, rare commitment to the ideals of service to humanity and good governance.

He said, “Lam Adesina stood for high democratic ideals that underpin the democratic system of government.  Ideals that are essential for ensuring that power is held by the people, either directly or through elected representatives. Ideals of effective participation in governance with citizens making their views known on policy decisions. Consequently, to honour his memory; the Progressives in Oyo State must come together as one. You all must fight the fight and win the battle come 2027, Oyo state must return to the progressive fold.”

The Senate Leader who was also the guest lecturer, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, who was represented by Sen. Shuaib Salisu emphasised the need for Nigerians to rediscover the value system which would encourage citizens to be more responsible, morally upright and diligent as against the culture of indiscipline, avarice and corruption. The lecture was themed; Improving Nigeria’s Governance… Lessons from the past, strategies for the future.

The event witnessed the convergence of hundreds of associates, supporters and family members of the late former governor who died in 2012. Alh. Adesina was a member of the House of Representatives (1979-1983), Chairman of the Oyo state chapter of the defunct National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), celebrated newspaper columnist and an accomplished educationist who participated in the struggle which ended military rule in Nigeria in 1999.

Some of the dignitaries at the event include Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo, Dr Kayode Fayemi, Senator Teslim Folarin, Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, Chief Iyiola Oladokun, Chief Alake Adeyemo, APC State Chairman, Alhaji Olayide Abas, Olubadan of Ibadanland,Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Apostle Sunday Popoola, Sen. Femi Lanlehin, Barrister Bayo Shittu, Engr. Rauf Olaniyan, Elder Wole Oyelese, Hon. Aderemi Oseni, Sen. Adesoji Akanbi, Sen. Monsurat Sunmonu, Chief Akin Oke, Prof. Adeolu Akande among others.
