Following the suspension of 18 local government chairmen and their vice chairmen by the Edo State House of Assembly, Governor Monday Okpebholo has constituted a seven-man panel of inquiry to investigate their stewardship.
The seven-man panel is headed by Solomon Imohiosen, with Osagie Asabor as secretary, while Adaze Andrew Enwanta, Patrick Idiake, Dorine Eduwui, Henry Unoakhe Itseuwa, and Prince Kassim Afegbua are to serve as members.
Recall that the Edo State House of Assembly, on December 17, 2024, during plenary, suspended the 18 local government chairmen and their vice chairmen based on a petition written against them by Governor Monday Okpebholo.
The Governor, in the petition claimed that the council chairmen refused to submit the financial account statements of their respective local governments to the State Asset Verification Committee.
The Governor viewed their actions as insubordination and gross misconduct.
In its resolution, the House suspended the chairmen and vice chairmen for two months and directed the legislative leaders of the various local governments to take charge of the affairs of the councils in the interim.
On December 3, 2024, Governor Monday Okpebholo gave the council chairmen 48 hours to submit statements of account to the Assets Verification Committee.
Okpebholo directed the council chairmen to submit the statements of account to the Assets Verification Committee through the office of the Secretary to the State Government, SSG.
He stated that the statements of account should cover the period from September 4, 2023, to the present, which would help and enable the Assets Verification Committee to perform its duties effectively and efficiently.
