The Taraba State Government has announced plans to procure about 10,000 metric tons of assorted grains for distribution to its citizens, in a bid to tackle hunger and ensure food security in the state.
Governor Agbu Kefas, who announced this in a New Year address to the residents of the state, said already 3,500 metric tons of assorted grains have been procured and the remaining 6,500 metric tons will be procured before the end of the first quarter of the year.
“In order to respond to the threat of hunger, we have procured 3,500 metric tons of assorted grains and reserved them for our citizens.
“Our target is to procure up to 10,000 metric tons of assorted grains,” Kefas said.
The governor, who highlighted that peace remains the foundation for progress, said that his administration has bolstered security across all 168 wards of the state.
“This effort includes collaborating with security agencies through the Joint Intelligence Network, expanding the Taraa Marshall, and working closely with traditional institutions and neighbouring states to address security challenges,” the governor added.
On education: Kefas explained that his administration has invested heavily in the future of Taraba’s children. “We have successfully launched free and compulsory education for primary and secondary levels.
“This year, we will continue to improve school infrastructure, recruit qualified teachers, and ensure access to quality education for all. Modern schools are going to be constructed in all LGAs using innovative building technologies.
“The Ministry of Tertiary Education was created to enhance quality service delivery and upgrade physical infrastructures. We will review all academic programmes and staffing to align with modern academic practices. It will not be business as usual, and we will not tolerate any act of sabotage,” he added.
Kefas reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency and citizen engagement, calling on Tarabans to unite for the common good, stressing the strength of the state’s diversity.
“I urge all citizens of Taraba State across ethnic, religious, and political lines to unite for the common good. The strength of our diversity lies in our ability to work together toward shared goals,” he stated.
