Troops of the Armed Forces of Nigeria have neutralised 109 terrorists, apprehended 81 suspects, and rescued 43 kidnapped hostages in the last week, according to the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba.

In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, Maj.-Gen. Buba revealed that the troops also arrested six individuals involved in oil theft and prevented oil thieves from stealing crude worth an estimated ₦618.7 million.

Buba disclosed that troops recovered 21 assorted weapons, including nine AK-47 rifles, five fabricated rifles, four Dane guns, and locally made pistols, alongside 124 rounds of ammunition.

Other items recovered were seven magazines, 97 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 22 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, and five live cartridges.

The troops further dismantled illegal oil operations in the Niger Delta, destroying 10 crude oil cooking ovens, 10 dugout pits, 12 boats, four storage tanks, and 10 illegal refining sites.

“Other items recovered include three pumping machines, 12 speedboats, 20 drums, two motorcycles, one mobile phone, and four vehicles, among others,” Buba said.

He added that troops intercepted 631,709 litres of stolen crude oil, 3,140 litres of illegally refined AGO, and 2,250 litres of petrol.

“Troops are sustaining the winning ways of ongoing operational engagements,” Buba stated, adding that Nigerians would “continue to witness the incremental effectiveness and efficiency of the armed forces.”
