…Navy, police, immigration, others donate ₦2,600,000
The Kano State Government has donated ₦12 million to support families of fallen heroes from the state.
The gesture was announced during the Emblem Appeal Fund Launch for the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, held on Monday at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano.
A statement by the Director of Public Enlightenment, Usman Gwadabe, disclosed that Governor Abba Yusuf personally donated ₦2 million, while the state’s 44 local government councils contributed a combined sum of ₦10 million.
Represented by the Director-General of Special Services, AVM Ibrahim Umaru (Rtd.), the Governor acknowledged the sacrifices of the fallen heroes.
“We appreciate the sacrifice of the fallen heroes and those currently engaged in Internal Security Operations, particularly the ongoing fight against insurgency, terrorism, and armed banditry in some parts of the country,” he said.
Governor Yusuf assured residents that his government remained committed to prioritising security and sustaining Kano’s reputation as a peaceful state.
He also urged stakeholders to support the Nigeria Legion’s initiatives in agriculture, housing, and transportation, to enhance the welfare of veterans.
Umaru made a personal donation of ₦300,000 and appealed to wealthy individuals and the government to empower veterans, rehabilitate the State Legion’s Secretariat, and improve their welfare.
The Nigeria Legion Kano State Chairman, Army Warrant Officer Kabiru Isyaku, expressed gratitude for the donations, assuring donors that the funds would be judiciously used.
The Nigerian Army, Navy, and Air Force each contributed ₦500,000, while the Nigeria Police Force and DSS donated ₦250,000 each. The NSCDC, Nigeria Immigration Service, and Brigadier General Gambo Ahmad Mai Adu’a (Rtd.) contributed ₦100,000 each.
