The House of Representatives has announced the death of Rt. Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, the Deputy Chief Whip, represented the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency of Ogun State.
She passed away on Wednesday, 15 January 2025 following a brief illness.
A statement issued by the House Spokesman, Rep. Akin Rotimi, Jr., described Onanuga, popularly known as Ijaya, as a visionary leader and a passionate advocate for her constituents.
Born on 2 December 1965, Onanuga was first elected to the House in 2019 under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
She chaired the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development during the 9th Assembly, championing women’s empowerment and social welfare.
Re-elected in 2023, she served as Deputy Chief Whip of the 10th Assembly, where she demonstrated exemplary leadership.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, associates, and the people of Ogun State,” the statement read.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
