A leader of the All Progressives Congress – APC in Anambra State, Chief Kodilichukwu Okelekwu, who was the Anambra Central Candidate of the party in the 2023 General Elections, has called on the leadership of the APC to be determined and focused on some key issues he thought would make the difference for the party ahead of the November 2025 Anambra State governorship election.

Highlighting his six priority considerations for the APC on the selection of the party’s standard bearer for the November election in Anambra State, Chief Okelekwu said that the decision of the party “will not only define the party’s immediate prospects but also set the tone for its long-term legacy in the state.”

According to Chief Okelekwu, the following should be considered in selecting the APC candidate for the Anambra 2025 governorship election: integrity, sound knowledge, approachability, hard work, adequate resources, and electability.

According to Okelekwu, “Integrity stands as the cornerstone of effective leadership. In a time when public trust in politicians is waning, the APC must choose a candidate who embodies honesty and transparency. An aspirant with a track record of integrity will not only inspire confidence among party members but will also attract the electorate who yearn for a leader they can trust,” Mr. Okelekwu said. In terms of his second requirement for sound knowledge, the APC chieftain said that “sound knowledge of the local issues and the political landscape is equally critical”. To buttress this, he averred that “An ideal candidate should possess a deep understanding of Anambra’s challenges and opportunities,” Okelekwu said, insisting that this tailored knowledge is essential for the candidate’s smooth navigation and competence in providing solutions while in government.

Other considerations outlined by Okelekwu include approachability, which he described as a “vital trait.” Similarly, he identified hard work as a “non-negotiable” demand on the candidate of the party during the Anambra gubernatorial polls in November. Then, he also identified the availability of adequate resources as “essential for any successful campaign.” According to Chief Okelekwu, “The APC must ensure that its chosen candidate has access to the necessary tools – be it financial backing, grassroots networks, or strategic advice – to run an effective campaign.” Finally on the list is electability. According to the APC chieftain, “A candidate’s ability to resonate with the electorate and appeal to a broad spectrum of voters is crucial. The APC needs a candidate who can not only win the party’s primary but also unify various factions within the party and attract undecided voters.”

So far, the Anambra APC has some of the finest lineup of aspirants jostling for the party’s governorship ticket. Sir Paul Chukwuma, a foundation member of the party, and its former National Auditor is in the race. He is credited for revitalizing the party in Anambra state. Other aspirants include, Hon. Azuka Okwuosa, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo and Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, all of whom are seasoned and well-known political players.
