The Senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, Sunday Katung, has awarded full scholarships to five students of Bethel Baptist High School, Kaduna, who were victims of the 2021 bandit attack and kidnapping.
The students were among the 121 pupils abducted by armed bandits on 5 July 2021 in one of the deadliest school attacks in Kaduna State. While most of the kidnapped students have completed their studies, five remain in school and will now receive full sponsorship for their education up to the university level.
The announcement was made during a fundraising event organised by the Kaduna Baptist Conference to support the rebuilding of Bethel Baptist High School.
Speaking at the event, Senator Katung assured that his education foundation would cover the students’ academic expenses to ease the burden on their families, who have suffered immense hardship.
“From today, my education foundation will take full responsibility for their education from now up to the university level,” Katung declared.
He described the initiative as a gesture of hope for the affected families and noted his commitment to supporting education, particularly for victims of insecurity.
