A group, Active Citizens Movement in collaboration with the Coalition of Cooperative Societies, has called for accountability from federal lawmakers in Anambra Central senatorial zone over constituency funds totaling about N21 billion Naira.

The group has planned a town hall meeting with the three federal lawmakers representing the three federal constituencies in Anambra Central, as well as the senator representing the Anambra Central senatorial zone. Anambra Central federal constituencies and representatives are as follows; Awka North and South Federal Constituency seat is occupied by Hon. Prof. Oby Orogbu. Idemili North and South Federal Constituency seat is occupied by Hon. Uche Okonkwo and Anaocha, Dunukofia, and Njikoka Federal Constituency seat is occupied by Hon. George Ozodinobi.  The Anambra Central senator is Sen. Victor Umeh. All four federal lawmakers were elected on the platform of the Labour Party in 2023. They are expected at the town hall slated for February 28, 2025, at Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka, Anambra State.

Breaking the constituency projects into local governments in the senatorial zone, the group said that Anaocha LGA got about 38 project allocations at the cost of N4.3 billion, while Awka North got 22 projects at the cost of N3.022 billion. Meanwhile, according to the group, Dunukofia got 28 project allocations at the cost of N4.11 billion. For Awka South, a total of 76 projects were allocated at the cost of N7.8 billion. Idemili North was allocated 18 projects at N724 million. However, for Njikoka, a total of 21 projects were allocated at N3.26 billion. For Idemili South, 30 projects were allocated at N2.5 billion. In all, a total of 233 projects were allocated to Anambra Central at N21.81 billion.

According to the group, this town hall is crucial because, it is important to “have open and inclusive conversations about the deployment of public resources.” The group also hinted that the town hall will afford all concerned the chance to understand the impact of these constituency projects, promote collaboration, and improve stakeholders’ input, as well as set up committee that will ensure that constituency projects for Anambra Central are tied to the needs of the communities in the zone.
