The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC, has confirmed the death of six persons in a lone auto crash along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway on Thursday.
A vehicle with nine adults onboard to Enugu at Ugwu-Onyeama axis summersaulted, killing 6 persons on the spot and the surviving three rushed to Enugu State University Teaching Hospital (ESUTH), Parklane Enugu, by FRSC; the vehicle was carrying vegetables and fruits.
The Sector Commander, FRSC Enugu State Command, Mr. Franklin Agbakoba, confirming the incident, said, “The unfortunate accident which happened at about 8 a.m. involved nine persons (eight male adults and one female adult).”
“Five male adults and one female adult were confirmed dead in the unfortunate accident, while FRSC Rescue Team took three injured male adults to ESUTH Hospital, Parklane, Enugu.”
Mr. Agbakoba also intimated to newsmen that the Muslim faithful have carried the dead bodies of five Muslims involved in the crash for burial even as the relatives of the lady that died have carried their loved ones’ corpses.
On the suspected cause of the accident, Agbakoba said, “The accident must have been caused by speed violation and brake system failure.”
“It is unfortunate, and we pray that God consoles the families and friends that lost their loved ones in the unfortunate incident.”
Recall that barely a month ago, a family of eleven and so many others lost their lives in a fuel tanker explosion along this same Ugwu-Onyeama axis of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.
