CommunityNewsNigeriaLG Leadership: Gov Adeleke Meets Traditional Rulers

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has stressed the need for the state’s citizens to be enlightened so that fake news cannot be weaponized to destroy the state.

Governor Adeleke stated this at a special briefing session with the Osun State Council of Traditional Rulers, affirming that there is no court order reinstating the court-sacked Yes/No council chairmen.

He said: “As one of the highly literate communities in Nigeria, we must avoid misinformation and disinformation, hence my coming here to present all details about the recent local government face-off”.

“Our fathers, since the appeal was dismissed, the judgment sacking the Yes/No chairmen remains valid. As of today, the sack order has never been vacated by any court of law.

“In the 53-page judgment that is in the public domain, there is nowhere an order was made by the Court of Appeal for reinstatement of the sacked chairmen. Even if there was any request for reinstatement, prayers 3 and 4 were described by the Court of Appeal as academic, and the court declined to consider them.”

The Governor appealed to traditional rulers in the state to educate their subjects on the facts of the controversies surrounding the local government leadership.

He explained that there was no reinstatement order from the Appeal Court, and with the Supreme Court judgement on the Rivers local government election, it has validated the judgement of the Federal High Court, which sacked Chairmen elected in violation of the electoral act.

Addressing newsmen, Ooni of Ife and the Chairman, Osun State Council of Obas, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, said the traditional rulers are ready to forestall any violence in the state, noting that Osun State is above all.

Oba Ogunwusi commended the governor for the efforts to brief the traditional rulers and steps taken in stakeholder consultation to ensure peace in the state.

In their separate remarks, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, both the Commissioners for Justice, Mr. Wole Jimi-Bada, and Commissioner for Information and Public Orientation, Chief Kolapo Alimi, presented the four judgements to prove to the kings that the court order sacking the chairmen remains valid and in force.
