The Ogun State government has closed down a private school,

The Perfect Light Nursery and Primary School, Eyinogbe, in Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State, has been shut down.

The closure of the school by the State Government followed an alleged assault by the head teacher, Ashafa Afelaja, who sodomized a female pupil (name withheld).

The action of the head teacher on the minor had damaged her fistula, resulting in bleeding.

The state government, through the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, shut down the school on Wednesday for operating illegally.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Dr Ronke Soyombo, during a visit to the school, expressed disgust at the alleged abuse and the deplorable conditions under which the pupils were learning.

“The government is committed to creating favourable learning environments for students in both state and private schools, regardless of their level, and she urged parents to take good care of their children and protect them from social ills,” She said.

Soyombo stated that parents that the other pupils in the community would be enrolled at the nearest state primary school in Igode to continue their education without any disruption.

Soyombo assured the community that the present administration, in conjunction with the Nigeria Police Force, Ogun State Command, had intervened in the matter and would ensure a thorough investigation. Legal sanctions would be taken against the perpetrator.

The Special Adviser added that the Ministry of Education has been working collaboratively with the State Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Women’s Affairs and Social Development to carry out medical examinations and ensure the well-being of the affected child.

The state Commissioner for Women’s Affairs and Social Development, Adijat Adeleye said the perpetrator is currently in police custody, and the ministry is following up on the rescued child for necessary attention.
