NewsNigeriaPolitics1-Month Blackout: Social, Economic Activities Crippled In Kaduna

The power blackout for 11 months in Kakuri Hausa Ward 05 of Makera constituency, Kaduna State has crippled social and economic activities in the area.

The situation has forced many businessmen and women to relocate to other communities, while those that could not, have been languishing in abject poverty.

The residents of the community, who lamented over the situation, explained that their efforts to address it have been unsuccessful and called on Governor Uba Sani to address the lingering power outage in their community.

Alhaji Inuwa Mohammed, the Community leader, said that they have been in darkness since April 2024, and explained that some residents are abandoning their businesses for other ventures, which is not good for economic growth.

The Community leader added  “Millions of naira have been lost to this recurring power outage in our ancient town.”

“Kaduna Electric should restore the power as it has paralyzed socio-economic activities in the community”,

Mohammed added that there was a time when the community bought cables to replace the faulty ones to restore the light, adding that their efforts yielded no desired response.

He explained that the transformer supplying electricity to the area had been damaged, calling for a replacement to enjoy the power supply again.

“We have made several meetings with the Kaduna Electric officials in Makera to the extent that we contributed money to procure the damaged materials, yet it was fruitless,” Mohammed said.

He appealed to the authorities to save them as it is easy for the men of the underworld to operate more in darkness.

The Regional Manager, Makera, Kaduna Electric, Basil Ujam confirmed the blackout, adding that they are waiting for feedback from their head office for the next line of action.
