NewsNigeriaPoliticsPDP Chieftain Says Tinubu’s Initiative Aims to Divert Attention From Challenges

Dr. Pearse Adetokunbo Pearse, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and member board of Governors of Peoples Democratic Institute (PDI) has said that President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Nigeria First policy is a political statement designed to divert attention from the challenges in the country.

It will be recalled that the President has approved the Renewed Hope Nigeria First policy that mandates all federal ministries, departments and agencies to give absolute priority to Nigerian goods, services in respect to spending public funds.

The politician stated this on Tuesday, pointing out that the idea of giving priority to Nigerian products in official purchase by government agencies has always been the official position.

He said, “This is another political statement designed to divert attention from the burning issues of today; insecurity, hunger, unemployment and the blatant abuse of democracy; the capture of the rights of Nigerians.

“Considering how irrelevant and misplaced this policy is: the idea of giving priority to Nigerian products in official purchase by government agencies has always been the official position. The problem is that no agency respects the rule, not even the presidency.

“Secondly, before you ban imports, you should help producers by increasing their production. This administration has done nothing to assist local producers instead its policies are hostile to investors who would otherwise produce for local consumption.

“Hardly any products needed by government agencies are produced locally. They have no option but to either import or buy imported products when they are available locally.

“This policy is nonsensical. It’s designed to give the impression that the President is patriotic when in fact everything he does is to please his foreign bosses, and to satisfy his own greed.

“Tinubu thinks that by appearing patriotic Nigerians will forget that while they have no electricity or have to deal with the increasing cost of power, the President has removed himself from the National grid.

“In a reckless demonstration of callous insensitivity, Tinubu has used billions of Nigerian tax payers money to buy himself solar energy.

“This man is doing all he can to mislead and misinform while refusing to take responsibility for developing the country or solving any of its problems.

“Let me echo the words of Governor Aregbesola; a onetime confidant of the President; “Tinubu doesn’t mean well for Nigeria.”
