The Benue State Government has dismissed reports claiming that Governor Hyacinth Alia is planning to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The rumour, which began circulating online over the weekend, suggested that the governor might dump the party due to internal wrangling in the state chapter.
But the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, called the story “completely false” and accused the unnamed media outlet behind it of engaging in “yellow journalism.”
“It is laughable and lame for a media house and its sponsors to even think the governor would contemplate leaving the party he is sponsoring in the state,” Kula said in a statement on Sunday.
He explained that Governor Alia remains firmly committed to the APC, noting that the governor has actively participated in party activities at both the state and national level.
According to him, Alia was also part of recent political engagements that endorsed President Bola Tinubu as the party’s sole presidential candidate for the 2027 elections.
Responding to claims of division within the state’s APC leadership, Kula said the party under Hon. Benjamin Omale is intact and working in harmony with the governor.
“The APC leadership in the state is in no crisis as claimed in the unfounded report. The party… has a super working relationship with the governor,” he said.
Kula criticised the report’s attempt to discredit Governor Alia’s presence at party functions, describing it as “appalling and disappointing.”
He urged the public to disregard the rumour, saying: “The governor has no plans to defect from the APC, especially as Benue State stands to benefit more under the party and the Tinubu-led presidency.”
According to Kula, Governor Alia is focused on delivering good governance and remains loyal to the platform on which he was elected.
