…Disowns Alleged Endorsement
The former governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, has frowned at Mr. Nicholas Ukachukwu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, in the November 8, Anambra 2025 governorship election, over claims that Obiano had endorsed him. The alleged endorsement circulated by Ukachukwu’s supporters purported that Obiano endorsed Ukachukwu without equivocation. The endorsement piece with excerpts like; “we have only two choices in this election, go for Ukachukwu for progress that we are making steadily or remain in Egypt Chukwuma Soludo, Obiano said,” among many of such disjointed and tasteless direct quotations accredited to the former governor were said to have been made in Texas, while addressing Anambra State Community in the US.
Reacting to this alleged endorsement in a piece entitled, “Obiano disowns false endorsement rumours,” the former governor came hard on Ukachukwu and his supporters peddling what he described as fake news and a mere fabrication. “The fake statement mischievously claims that Chief Obiano, while allegedly addressing Ndi Anambra in Texas, “urged them to go for the ultimate” …This fabrication is entirely false, misleading and should be completely disregarded by the public”.
Obiano’s rebuttal, signed by Sir Paul Nwosu, a former Special Adviser and former Commissioner for Information in Anambra State, noted that “Chief Obiano neither addressed any gathering of Ndi Anambra in Texas nor granted any interview or issued any statement, publicly or privately, concerning the forthcoming election or any aspirant. As a statesman and a former Governor who served Anambra State with distinction, Chief Willie Obiano remains committed to the peace, progress, and democratic integrity of the state.”
Chief Willie Obiano further noted that he is not apolitical and therefore not unsure of his standing in the politics of Anambra State. However, he reiterated that he would make his position known by himself at the right time. “He is not apolitical and reserves the right to make his views known clearly, personally, and without ambiguity when he deems appropriate. Such declarations, when made, will not come from faceless third parties or shadowy platforms,” the former governor said.
