In Anambra State, the Anambra South senatorial district has been vacant since the demise of Late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah last year July. There is also a vacancy in Onitsha North Constituency 1 following the murder of Hon. Justice Azuka by criminal gangs who kidnapped him in Onitsha just before Christmas in the year 2024.
For now, there are altogether no fewer than five aspirants in APGA for the Anambra South senatorial by-election ticket. Chief Akai Egwuonwu, a notable entrepreneur and businessman, is intensely contesting for the Anambra South APGA ticket. Hon. Pascal Agbodike, a serving member of the House of Representatives, is also contesting for the ticket. Meanwhile, Chief Ebuka Onunkwo, a businessman, is equally in the contest. Other contenders include Chief Patrick Ubajaka and Chief Emma Nwachukwu. A few days ago, Governor Soludo held a meeting with the aspirants, urging them to minimize contestation by agreeing to support one person among themselves to fly the party’s ticket. However, after two meetings of the aspirants, they have not been able to reach an agreement. Whatever happens, APGA will be squaring it out with YPP, in particular, during the August 16 by-election.
