In its effort to tackle conflict, particularly between farmers and herders, Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has inaugurated the Adamawa State Peace, Conflict Resolution, and Social Integration Commission.
Governor Fintiri, while inaugurating the commission at Government House, Yola, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering unity, justice, and long-lasting peace across the state.
He described the establishment of the commission as a proactive step towards addressing the root causes of communal conflict, religious intolerance, political violence, and ethnic division that have historically undermined the state’s development.
“Peace is a prerequisite for development. Traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society, and youth groups should support the commission’s mission.
“This commission is a vital part of our vision for a peaceful and inclusive Adamawa.
“We aim to create institutional frameworks that can mediate disputes, promote reconciliation, and rebuild trust among communities,” he said.
The governor noted that Adamawa’s diversity must be seen as an asset rather than a source of conflict and called on all citizens to embrace dialogue, tolerance, and mutual respect.
Governor Fintiri expressed confidence in the capacity of the newly inaugurated members of the commission to deliver on their mandate. He emphasized that their work would be guided by fairness, transparency, and community participation.
The Peace Commission is expected to mediate in inter-communal disputes, design peace-building initiatives, and promote social integration programs, particularly in conflict-prone areas of the state.
Governor Fintiri reaffirmed his administration’s zero tolerance for violence and his commitment to building a state where justice, equity, and peace prevail.
In his remarks, the newly inaugurated Chairman of the Commission, Hama Batta, Alhamdu Gladstone Teneke, underscored the sacredness of peace, describing it as “pillar to pillar” of any society’s development.
He commended Governor Fintiri’s foresight and pledged the Commission’s full commitment to its mandate.
