The Federal Government will on Thursday (today) hold an expanded special session of the Federal Executive Council, in honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Special Assistant on Media to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Rabiu Ibrahim, that the Special FEC session is scheduled for 5:00 pm. at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The statement added that the expanded FEC meeting in Abuja would have in attendance key national figures, including the leadership of the National Assembly – both the Senate and the House of Representatives – members of the Judiciary, and representatives of the late President’s family.
The expanded meeting is part of a series of national mourning activities approved by President Bola Tinubu, following Buhari’s passing.
Part of the statement reads: “As part of the special mourning activities approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, an expanded special session of the Federal Executive Council in honour of the late former President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, His Excellency Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, is scheduled to take place tomorrow, Thursday, at 5:00 pm. at the Council Chambers, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
“The Special FEC meeting will be held after the Third Day prayer for the late former President at his residence in Daura, Katsina State, with the Vice President, His Excellency Kashim Shetima, leading a delegation of the Federal Government, comprising cabinet ministers, for the prayers”.
The government has also scheduled interfaith prayer sessions in honour of the deceased former President, with a special prayer session scheduled at the National Mosque on Friday, July 18, and a special church service on Sunday, July 20, 2025.
The statement added that: “The Expanded FEC meeting will be attended by the leadership of the National Assembly – the Senate and the House of Representatives, the Judiciary, and representatives of the family of the late former President.
“Furthermore, on Friday, July 18, a special prayer session will be held in honour of the late former President at the National Mosque, Abuja, while on Sunday, July 20, a special church service will be conducted”.
