Chief Akai Egwuonwu, the leading Anambra South APGA senatorial aspirant, has pledged to abide by the outcome of the conclave, which produced Chief Emma Nwachukwu, as the preferred choice of the eight APGA aspirants for the Anambra South senatorial by-election. It would be recalled that last week, upon the request of the governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, the eight APGA aspirants who bought the APGA form for the Anambra South senatorial by-election gathered to select a preferred candidate among themselves. In that process, only Emma Nwachukwu got two votes, while one aspirant got zero votes. Therefore, Emma Nwachukwu emerged as the preferred choice of the aspirants. The aspirants had agreed, based on the governor’s request, that the conclave result would be binding. This, Egwuonwu said, he would abide by, as he had earlier promised to. He also commended the governor for such a transparent process.

Addressing his team members, Chief Akai Egwuonwu said that all the aspirants had previously willingly agreed to abide by the outcome of the conclave. Given the clarity of the outcome, he said, he is left with the sole option of honouring the agreement. “What happened was the freest and fairest primary political process I have seen in my life. It was transparent. I am satisfied with the uprightness of that process. We earlier agreed on modalities for the conclave. There was no interference of any kind. So, I will abide by the agreement and I support the outcome of the conclave,” Chief Egwuonwu reiterated. On that note, he also announced his withdrawal from the senatorial by-election based on the result of the conclave.

Speaking to members of his team, which included his local government coordinators and media team members, among others, Chief Egwuonwu thanked everyone and assured his team of continued partnership and support in other endeavours. He also pledged to support all members of the team with N1,000,000, which they shall use to enhance their work and strengthen their handiwork. “We will remain a team. And we will continue to work together. I will give each member of the team the sum of N1,000,000 to support our handiwork,” Egwuonwu said.

Members of the team were excited and thanked Chief Egwuonwu for his leadership, while assuring him of continued and enduring support.
