Following the derailment of a train on August 26, 2025, near Jerre, while en route from Abuja to Kaduna, the Federal Government has set up an investigation committee to ascertain the cause of the incident.

The Minister of Transportation, Senator Said Ahmed Alkali, who disclosed this in a statement signed by Janet McDickson Noah, Director of Press and Information in the ministry the said the committee will propose measures to prevent a recurrence.

According to a statement, the minister directed that a committee comprising all relevant stakeholders be constituted to examine both the immediate and underlying causes of the incident.

The committee will also recommend preventive measures and identify strategies to enhance the safety and efficiency of rail transportation in Nigeria.

The committee is headed by Musa O. Ibrahim, with members to include Prof. Danwaka Shuaibu, Engr. Zirra Finbar; Barr. Omotola Olusegun (as secretary); Dr. Kayode Opeifa, Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation; Engr. I.A. Ebuniwe; and representatives of Technics Engineering, Architecture Marketing Nig. Ltd, CCECC, and civil society organizations, as well as male and female passengers.
