Former Inspector General of Police, IGP, Solomon Ehigiator Arase, has passed away at the age of 69.
Arase was said to have died in the early hours of Sunday, at Cedar Crest Hospital in Abuja, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and service to the Nigeria Police Force.
Born on June 21, 1956, in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State, Arase had a storied career marked by key positions, including: 18th Inspector-General of Police, Head of the Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Bureau, Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom State, Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of intelligence, Fellow of the Nigerian Defence Academy, Member of the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Namibia.
Arase, after retiring from the police force in 2016, continued to serve in various capacities, including: Chairman of the Police Service Commission, a position he held from January 2023 until his removal in June 2024, Security consultant with organisations like the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and the European Centre for Electoral Support, Member of the Committee on Prevention of Torture, Geneva Switzerland
Arase was conferred with the Nigerian national honor of Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR) by President Muhammadu Buhari in October 2022.
The nation mourns the loss of a dedicated public servant, and his contributions to the Nigeria Police Force and the country at large will be remembered for generations to come.
