Onyinyechi Basil, representing Anambra State, was crowned Miss Universe Nigeria 2025 at the grand finale of the national pageant, held at the Convention Centre of Eko Hotels & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Basil triumphed over fierce competition, defeating the last remaining contender, Damilola Bolarinde (Miss Lagos), in the finale.
In the final placements Bolarind was named first runner-up, Fortune Kurobo (Miss Bayelsa) finished as second runner-up, and Irene Ikediashi (Miss Ogun) took the spot of third runner-up. Idah Eno (Miss Akwa Ibom), who also stood among the top five, was awarded the title of Miss Supranational Nigeria 2025.
The journey began with 22 contestants unveiled on 26 August, from which the field was narrowed down to 10 finalists, and eventually to the final five.
Notable finalists who advanced to the top ten included Miss Delta (De-Blessing Asaboro), Miss Ekiti (Ezekiel Silver), Miss Imo (Chukwukereobi Chinaza), Miss Ebonyi (Ugoaru Onuoha), and Miss Oyo (Lagoke Funmike).
The night unfolded as a spectacle of elegance and national pride. The traditional attire segment showcased the richness of Nigeria’s cultural heritage, as contestants blended local textiles with contemporary design, prompting enthusiastic applause.
The swimwear round was a striking celebration of inclusivity and body confidence, further elevating the evening’s energy. The event commenced on an energetic note with vibrant choreographed dance performances, setting a suitable tone for the pageant.
According to voting data released by the organisers, Miss Delta, De-Blessing Asaboro, led the public vote with 38,319 votes, followed by Miss Lagos, Damilola Bolarinde, with 34,033 votes, and Miss Ekiti, Ezekiel Silver, with 28,074 votes.
Hosted by Anthony Abraham and Victory Wilson, the finale drew a large in-person audience and dominated social media conversation, with the countdown to the crowning moment capturing national attention.
Basil succeeds Chidinma Adetshina, Miss Universe Nigeria 2024, who also reigned as Miss Universe Africa and Oceania.
As the new titleholder, Basil will represent Nigeria at the 74th Miss Universe pageant, scheduled for 20 November 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand.
