…Invites Nigerians to Have Their Say
The House of Representatives has announced that the long-awaited National Public Hearing on the ongoing review of the 1999 Constitution will be held on Monday, 22 September 2025, at the Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.
The public hearing, initially postponed in honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, is aimed at consolidating citizens’ views ahead of voting on Constitution Review Bills by lawmakers.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the House Spokesman, Rep. Akin Rotimi Jr., the forum reflects the House’s resolve to ensure inclusiveness and broad participation in the constitutional reform process.
“This national forum will consolidate citizens’ contributions ahead of legislative voting on the Constitution Review Bills,” Rotimi said. “It demonstrates the House’s commitment to inclusive and participatory governance, ensuring that Nigerians have a direct platform to shape constitutional reforms.”
The Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, who also chairs the House Committee on Constitution Review, urged Nigerians to seize the opportunity to make their voices heard.
“This Constitution belongs to all Nigerians, and its review must reflect the aspirations of our people. I urge citizens and stakeholders to participate fully in the National Public Hearing and make their voices count, because only through your contributions can we achieve a truly participatory and people-driven constitutional review,” Kalu said.
The statement noted that the public hearing comes after extensive zonal consultations held in July 2025 across the six geopolitical regions, where hearings were conducted in 12 designated centres nationwide.
To guide contributions, the House has made available a Compendium of 86 Constitution Review Bills containing explanatory notes and memoranda.
The document can be accessed online at bit.ly/HCCRCompendium.
“The 10th House of Representatives reaffirms its commitment to a transparent and credible review process that reflects the collective will and aspirations of Nigerians,” Akin stated.
