The Kano State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has announced that 68 inmates successfully passed the 2025 Senior Secondary School Examination (SSCE) conducted by the National Examination Council (NECO).
The inmates took the examination under the Center for Inmates’ Continuity Education, a scheme established by the Correctional Service to allow inmates to pursue formal education.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the command, CSC Musbahu Lawan Kofar Nasarawa, the feat was possible due to backing from the Kano State Government, which has adopted full sponsorship of the programme.
The beneficiaries, said Kofar Nasarawa, “expressed immense joy over their success, describing the examination success as a turning point in their lives.”
The initiative, the spokesperson added, aligns with the Correctional Service Act, 2019, which mandates rehabilitation and reformation of inmates through education and vocational training.
He further noted that the success also reflects directives from the Controller General of Corrections, CGC Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, who has encouraged all custodial centers nationwide to enroll inmates into both academic and vocational programs.
“The aim is to equip them with the necessary skills to reintegrate into society as responsible and productive citizens,” Kofar Nasarawa quoted.
