The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced that passenger train services on the Abuja–Kaduna corridor will resume on Wednesday, 1st October 2025, following weeks of suspension.
According to a statement signed by the Corporation’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, the commercial service will recommence after the “successful completion of all required safety, technical, and operational checks.”
The NRC stressed that the step underscored its commitment to “ensuring smooth, reliable, and secure train services for the travelling public.”
The service was suspended after the 26th August 2025 incident which left several passengers injured and forced the Corporation to halt operations.
Addressing the welfare of affected passengers, NRC disclosed that out of the 583 passengers on board during the incident, 530 were contacted by phone, with 512 successfully refunded.
“All 22 injured passengers have been contacted, many visited by our medical team, and will enjoy one free ride per week until December 31, 2025,” the statement read.
It further assured that “all 618 people on board during the August 26, 2025 accident will be entitled to one free ride before December 31, 2025.”
The timetable released by the Corporation shows that trains will depart IDU station in Abuja at 8:45 a.m., stop at Kubwa by 9:05 a.m., and arrive Rigassa, Kaduna at 12:42 p.m. For the return trip, trains will leave Rigassa at 2:30 p.m., stop at Kubwa at 6:02 p.m., and arrive IDU at 6:23 p.m.
Additionally, every Wednesday has been set aside for maintenance.
Expressing gratitude to Nigerians for their patience during the suspension, the NRC stated: “The NRC appreciates the patience and understanding of all Nigerians especially train passengers during the period of the suspension and reaffirms its commitment to providing safe, reliable, affordable, efficient, secured and more customer-friendly train transportation alternatives across the country.”
The Corporation added: “We remain steadfast in our mission to deliver safe, affordable, and efficient rail transportation that supports national connectivity and economic growth.”
