To curtail further loss of lives and properties, Bachama and Chobo communities in Adamawa State who have engaged each other in fighting recently resulted into killings and destructions of personal belongings have opted for peace and signed a peace pact at the Adamawa State Police Command Headquarters, Yola.

Representatives of the two communities reaffirmed their commitment to dialogue, forgiveness, and peaceful coexistence, acknowledging that lasting peace and mutual prosperity can only be achieved through collective efforts.

The peace pact provides for:-

  1. Cessation of Hostilities:- declaration of a comprehensive ceasefire.
  2. Security Provisions: – visibility policing, joint peace monitoring committees, and dismantling of illegal roadblocks.
  3. Boundary and Access Agreements:- free access to farmlands, markets, and routes.
  4. Resolution of Past Grievances: – use of lawful dialogue and reconciliation.
  5. Commitment to Dialogue: – regular meetings to prevent conflict escalation.
  6. Role of the Commissioner of Police:- As guarantor and chief arbiter, with the Police to investigate violations impartially, prosecute offenders, and provide security briefings.

The Police Command commends both communities for their voluntary commitments and sacrifices to peace and assures that it will continue to work with relevant stakeholders to ensure the full implementation of the Accord.

The Command further encouraged members of the public to support this peace initiative and report any act capable of jeopardizing security efforts to the Police or appropriate authorities.

The Peace pact meeting was presided over by the Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris has in attendance other Service Commanders including Lt Col. Eleje Abubakar, Garrison Commander 23 Armoured Brigade Yola represented the Brigade Commer, Mr. Bartholomew Omoaka, State Director DSS; and Commandant Idris Dahiru Bande, State Commander NSCDC.
